Creative Emotions is a dynamic collaboration between award winning children’s author, Josh Langley and Joelene Lavrick from Life Lessons Australia.
This unique workshop (for ages 8-13) will engage children with drawing, writing and acting to shift them into a positive mindset. They will gain a greater understanding of their feelings and will learn strategies to manage the ‘big feelings’ that challenging situations can bring. On completion of this course in creativity and emotional fitness, your child will be solution focused, better equipped to redirect negative thoughts, aware of how special they truly are and will be ready to take on the world.
A little bit about Josh
Ground-breaking and refreshingly uncomplicated, Josh’s life affirming messages resonate with both kids and parents alike. His books have received rave reviews from kid’s book reviewers, child psychologists and parents and his most recent book It’s OK to Feel The Way You Do, won 2018 ABIA Small Publishers’ Children’s Book of the Year. Josh Langley takes a uniquely simple approach to kids’ mental and emotional well-being. His books and workshops are delightful reminders to focus on the things that really matter in life.
In this workshop, Josh will explain his personal story of becoming an accomplished author to inspire budding young writers. He will also run children through a drawing tutorial, incorporating writing to explore a range of emotions and how to deal with them.
A message from Joelene
I adore children and I really want them to know how incredibly special they are and how they can learn to improve the way that they think about themselves, the way they think about others and the way they think about the situations that they experience at home and at school.
My ultimate goal is for children to learn to make better choices with their thinking, which leads to improved moods and more strategic reactions to their social situations and challenges. I teach them a formula to deal with any situation which may arise.
The younger children are when they start to manage themselves, the better. I know from my own experience that I didn’t always know how to do this and I missed out on a lot of fun in my life and also created problems for myself when I didn’t need to because I let my emotions and negative thoughts rule the roost. You have to BE THE BOSS OF YOUR BRAIN.
“Either you control your mind or your mind controls you,” Napoleon Hill.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary) and nearly 20 years teaching experience in Western Australian Primary Schools. My experience working as a Drama Specialist for Helen O’Grady Drama Academy in Perth has also allowed me to incorporate a drama based experience for children within my course. The CREATIVE EMOTIONS workshop will include a theatrical production with a powerful self-esteem message for children.
